Listening, Creating, Performing and appreciating performing arts enables us to enhance development and academic life.
Performing Arts education gives students skills and guidance in many ways. Music, dance and drama give students the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of themselves, their peers and the world.
It is through the vibrant classroom curriculum from Prep to Year 12 that many benefits are realised. These include academic enrichment, personal development through creative expression, taking responsibility for their learning and commitment, development of coordination and fine motor skills, reaching of self discipline and tolerance. Learning an instrument as an individual and then giving performances in groups with others also assists the development of self confidence, listening and speaking.
Performing arts is broad and extensive program throughout. The fun and enjoyment of creative expression through music, dance and drama is introduced during the primary years. In the classroom, performing arts is a core study from Prep to Year 9 with elective classroom music, dance and drama studies from Years 10 to 12.
There are also optional individual instrumental studies from Years 5 to 12.
Students are encouraged to achieve high levels of music performance in their secondary music studies due to their involvement in instrumental studies with highly skilled tutors. Being involved in the ensembles and performance opportunities offered at The Grange assist students to develop confidence and to refine skills. The Performing Arts Department provides many performance opportunities for students including performance nights, performances in the community, AMEB Examinations, Eisteddfod Performances and music camps.
