College Canteen

School canteens have a special role to play in the education, health and well-being of the students and school communities they serve.  The Grange P-12 College has embraced this philosophy and developed a program whereby the school canteen has become a place of education and training for students. The canteen is in a unique position to make a positive, worthwhile contribution to students' health and welfare.

The college canteen is now a place of learning where students are able to undertake work experience, structured work placement and VETis competencies. There is a structured curriculum designed to meet the needs of a wide range of students. VCAL literacy, numeracy and personal development skills are embedded into the curriculum. Training is delivered by qualified hospitality trainers.

Students within the canteen learn about food preparation, nutrition and business by pricing, purchasing, preparing and presenting healthy meals for their peers.  Each day sees wraps, rolls, sandwiches, sushi and a variety of hot meals produced ranging from pasta to roasts.
The college has also been able to employ a hospitality apprentice and former student providing real benefits by producing productive workers familiar with the needs of school canteens and trained for this specific industry
