Welcome to the Grange P-12 College, Callistemon Campus. The Campus currently houses almost 800 students within a vibrant learning community. Students are organised in Prep, year 1-2, year 3-4 and year 5-6 classrooms. Each area of the school is overseen by a team leader and leading teacher and teachers work in small teams to plan and implement curriculum. Our students have a vast area in which to play, with many playgrounds, open areas, passive sitting areas and shaded spaces for students to enjoy. We were pleased begin using our new BER gym, kitchen and learning space at the end of 2011. This space has become a very popular addition to our school community. We hold Monday assemblies in our new gym and invite all parents to attend. Our other recent development has been the conversion of our old multi-purpose room into a flexible learning space that houses three year 5-6 classrooms. This is now fully furnished and students have been enjoying their new learning environment.
The College has access to state of the art ICT equipment and approaches to learning. As part of this program, students from years 3-6 are involved in a new netbook program. Students lease a netbook (small laptop computer) from the College with which they are able to use for learning at school and at home. Please refer to the ‘1 to 1’ tab on this website for more information. Our classrooms also have access to a range of ICT equipment to enhance learning, including interactive whiteboards, iPads and iPods. A fully-equipped computer lab sits alongside our library space.
We have a very active specialist program where students experience learning within the performing arts, visual arts and physical education areas. Experienced staff run engaging programs in each area and also offer a range of extra-curricular opportunities for our students.
We encourage all parents and guardians to take an active role in educating their child. Our staff welcome parent involvement in the classroom and on a range of school activities, including excursions. The campus also has an active Coffee and Chat group who meet together regularly and assist with the organisation of school events. Parents who assist in classrooms and attend activities as a parent helper require a current ‘Working with Children’ check. Our major campus event each year is the Outdoor Event, which invites all members of our school community to celebrate performing arts as their child dances and sings on stage with his/her class.
Parents and guardians can assist in their child’s learning and success at school by reinforcing the following: that students are at school every day, on time, in full school uniform and have all of the equipment required for a successful school day (including a healthy lunch!). If at any time you require assistance, or would like to chat about your child’s progress at school, please make initial contact with your child’s teacher, who will then refer you to other support staff if necessary.
In 2012, staff at the Campus will be introducing a new reporting process and format, which will see regular learning plan meetings with your child’s teacher in order to set and reflect on personalised learning goals. We expect that all parents will take every opportunity to participate in this valuable process.
