Later Years News
Students have completed at least their first School Assessment Coursework (SAC). This forms the initial component of students Unit 1 and 3 assessment. In order for parents to be fully informed a new reporting process has been introduced. The reports are based around the AAA system of:
Academic: Completion of Learning Outcomes, Completion of Homework
Attendance
Active participation in the classroom
Important aspects of the reports:
• Parents will receive a Communication Report on a three weekly basis.
• A list of improvement strategies
• Information on student pathways will be available online and viewing viewing from home at a later date
It is important to develop home/school relationships therefore please do not hesitate to contact the school on 97489166 to discuss their progress with the relevant teacher/s.
Congratulations to the following students who have dis-played outstanding commitment to their studies and the school and wider community.
• School and House Captains – Clay Aitkin, Len- ice Mila, Jordan Barling and Jaqui Boxshall
• Lenice Mila – Leadership, Volunteering and Community Involvement Award • Stacey Kotridis, Lana Ha and Arron Calleja - Wyndham Scholarship Fund 2012
• Jordan Kirby – Competing at the Olympic Swimming Trials in 200m Individual Medley
Activities that have occurred during the February include the Year 12 Study Camp and introduction to the Elevate Program (designed to provide students with the skills required to successfully complete Year 12). The Year 12 visit to Deakin University Geelong and Year 11 Workshop outlining utilising “Different Learning Styles” received excellent student feed- back. Year 12 Jumpers have been ordered and de- posits paid for and will arrive Term 2.
It has been a pleasure to observe that the major- ity of Year 11 and 12 students are coming to school in full school uniform. Thank you to the parents for your support in this matter. It is also pleasing to see that most students have attendance rate of at least 90 to 95%. Obviously time on task is one of the most important factors in achieving a result that meets the student requirements for the end of the year in terms of their University/TAFE/Work Path- ways.
Finally in the words of Tommy Hafey (motivational speaker who spoke at the Year 12 Camp):
DESIRE + DEDICATION + DETERMINATION + DISCIPLINE = YOUR DESTINATION
Jan Hickson Acting Assistant Principal (whilst David Smillie is on Long Service Leave)
