Welcome to Middle School for 2012, especially to all our new students and families. Teachers report that students in Years 7 and 8 have made a positive start to the school year and have settled in very well.

The Middle School Leadership Team for 2012 consists of:
Ms Karen Baker               Assistant Principal
Ms Lyn Verity                    Year 7 Leader
Ms Kim Ireland                 Year 8 Leader
Ms Tamsin Metcher        High Achievers Program and Pedagogy Coach
Mr Peter Herrick              Year 7 Assistant Leader
Mr Liam Garrity                Year 8 Assistant Leader

This year, students will participate in a range of House activities, which commenced with a very successful swimming carnival at the Lara pool. Year 7 students also participate in sports afternoons. Middle School House captains lead our student assemblies and represent Middle School at student leadership and House meetings. At the House Leadership breakfast, House captains were inspired by leadership insights from cricket legend Merv Hughes. Congratulations to our Middle School House Captains.

As students commence their next year level, parents often wonder how much homework their child should be doing. In Middle School students should be completing approximately one hour of homework per night. Homework tasks will be set by teachers. In addition, students should complete the following activities on a regular basis:
  • Reading: 20 minutes or more per night: this is highly beneficial for students and is one of the most important study tasks.
  • Completion of unfinished work
  • Revision and research
  • Organisation of notes, student planner and folders
The student planner (diary) is an essential organisational tool. Students record homework and due dates in the planner. Parents are asked to support the school by monitoring homework and signing the planner each week.
If you have any queries, you are most welcome to contact your son or daughter’s Home Group teacher.
